You will notice that the pages are in an older visual style. This reflects how much styles, use of color and images has changed in web pages. Nevertheless, the information provided is still just as valid as it was in 1999. Enjoy a little trip through web style history while learning the basics about the web and web page building.
At the 53rd NACD Annual Meeting in San Diego, Cyber-Sierra, webmaster and developer of the Natural Resources Job Search and the Conservation District Resource Center presented a 1/2 day Web Workhop to acquaint Conservation Districts with the Internet, Email and how to build a web site.
One of the best benefits of the Internet is the ability to share information and encourage "distance learning". The web pages developed for this workshop are laid out for use in a group presentation format. The pages were projected on a large screen. Consequently they look somewhat different from web pages designed solely for online visitor use.
In Workshop 1 we will cover the bare-bones basics of what the Internet is and how it works, how districts can benefit by using the Internet, how to perform searches, use of your browser and bookmarks, handling e-maila nd why your District should develop a web site.
In Workshop 2 we will cover the basics of web site design.
In Workshop 3 we will review strengths and weaknesses of various web site tools: WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors like MS Front Page, Front Page Express, Netscape Composer, and a few HTML editors.
Several people have asked for disk copies of the workshops and templates. All three workshops can be copied as a zip-file. Simply 'right-click' on the link and select 'save link as..' to copy the 1.4MB compressed file to your hard drive or an a-disk. The download takes approximately 10 minutes. Then use any zip-file program like Win Zipto decompress the file. Use your browser in 'offline' mode to open the file named intro.htm and you are all set!
